A registered charity has purchased a property close to Penrith in Cumbria, to provide a forever home for 1 person and 2 ‘revolving door’ places in the house for adults looking to move out of their family homes and take the first step to independent living.

The support provided is for adults who are on the autistic spectrum and learning disabilities, it is the tenants home. Building independent skills: looking after your home from washing clothes and dishes to mowing the grass and looking after pets, cooking, and sharing great recipes and adapting to life away from their family homes, carving out and living their ‘best lives’

4EDEN have recruited a team of highly skilled staff who work around the needs of the tenants, ensuring that the values of 4EDEN and those of The Lakeland Autistic Charity are promoted.

The home is a large property within a small community, it has stunning views across the fells and is only a short drive from Penrith. Surrounded by countryside and walks and close to many tourist attractions – the gateway to the Lakes!

At the front is a large paddock that we will be using  for small farm animals such as chickens and pet lambs and hopefully a piglet or 2!

Once we get the polytunnel up and running – we can start growing vegetables and cooking delicious meals.

This will create further opportunities for the tenants to build up skills and responsibilities, learn life cycles and harvest to use in their cooking.

We invite you to be a supporter of this journey, enabling access to lifelong learning, furthering skills and interests and living our ‘best life’

We have recently built a new shed block that we will utilise over the winter and prepare for next year when we hope to introduce a few farm animals.

Our Plans for 2026

✨ Restoring the Stable Roof – Our old stable deserves a second chance. The roof is leaking badly, and we’re working to get it repaired so the space can be used again—dry, safe, and full of life. With support, we can get this essential work underway quickly.

🌳 Planting Our Orchard & Hedgerow – We’ve secured the grant—now it’s time to plant! This orchard and hedgerow will boost biodiversity, support wildlife, and help create a sustainable future for the land. We’re eager to get the trees and plants in the ground as soon as possible.

🎨 Giving the Shed a Fresh Start – Once the roof is fixed, the shed needs a full repaint. Fresh paint means protection from the weather and a space that’s welcoming and functional for years to come.

🚪 Building New Stable Doors – The stables can’t be used until we build strong, secure doors. We still need timber, tools, and helping hands—perfect for anyone who loves a practical project or wants to donate materials.

🕸️ Turning the Polytunnel into a Fruit Haven – The polytunnel frame is ready to become a fruit cage. With mesh covering, it will protect our crops and help us grow more food sustainably for the animals and the community.

🐔 Creating a Safe Home for Chickens – The end stable is destined to become a warm, secure chicken shed. We’re also planning predator‑proof tunnels so our birds can roam safely, free from threats like foxes, rats, or badgers. This project will make a huge difference for animal welfare on site.
