About MyCommunity Penrith

My Community Penrith is a community-led initiative working to create a more inclusive and connected local area for people with learning disabilities, neurodivergence, and the wider community. It is part of a national Royal Mencap programme, with Penrith selected as one of a small number of locations across the UK to develop this work.

The project works closely with local people to understand what is working well and what could be improved, co‑producing activities and opportunities that benefit everyone. Its aim is to make Penrith a better place to live for all, promoting inclusion, friendship, and wellbeing.

What MyCommunity does

My Community Penrith delivers a wide range of inclusive activities and services, including:

  • Community events, social activities, and workshops
  • Volunteer opportunities and community engagement projects
  • The Gig Buddies programme, pairing volunteers with people with learning disabilities to attend social events together
  • Peer support groups and opportunities for co-production
  • Inclusive creative projects such as media, podcasts, and film-making
  • A flexible community space for meetings, activities, and local groups

These activities are designed to reduce isolation, build confidence, and strengthen connections across the community.
